LHS Visual Arts represent at 2017 V.A.S.E.

(This year's T-shirt for the event)

On Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, 18 LHS Visual Arts students with 22 artworks attended this year's regional competition known as V.A.S.E, held this year in Dickinson. Students were asked to come up with an original concept that can be communicated visually and is worked on prior to the competition. The day of the competition each student must go before a judge to present their effort and explain verbally their reasoning for each work. They are then rated on a I - IV rating (IV being the best, unlike in band or choir). Their scores are based partly on the artwork and partly on the interview.

This year we had 11 artworks completed by 8 students receive a IV rating.

NAHS Comes to LHS!

I am proud to announce that LHS now has an active chapter of the NAEA National Art Honor Society! The National Art Honor Society is an organization sponsored by the National Art Education Association. In 1978, the NAEA began the NAHS program specifically for high school students in grades 9 - 12, for the purpose of inspiring and recognizing those students who have shown an outstanding ability in art. The NAHS also strives to aid members in working toward the attainment of their highest potential in the Visual Arts, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community. Presently, there are over 32,000 student members in NAHS.

Members must possess a passion for art and a commitment to serve.
They are enthusiastic, dedicated leaders.

Mudslinging: The Art Room Way

There has been an awful lot of mudslinging between Democrats and Republicans lately... but we've had more fun with our own version of mudslinging!!! The students have been working on their clay projects that are currently drying and waiting to be fired to a whopping 1945*F (degrees that is).

Art 1: Pinch Pot Creatures

Art 2: Functional Coil Pots

Art 3: Ceramic Masks

And I can't let them have all the fun! So here's mine. It's had a little more work done since.
