Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Show

It's Rodeo Time in Texas and for the LHS Art Room this translates to the School Art Program! This year I am happy to say our show was bigger and getting better! Approximately 220 students from Liberty Elementary, Middle, and of course Liberty High School participated in the District Show this past Friday, Jan 16, 2015. The Liberty High School Cafeteria was filled from wall to wall with our students' efforts with the Middle School and High School doubling our participation. We once again had 3 pieces advance to Houston from Liberty High School, 2 from LMS and 2 from LES. Without further ado, here are the winning pieces:

This is my student's 3rd trip to Houston, LHS 2013 Gold Medal Winner, LHS 2014 Best of Show,
and Now, LHS 2015 Best of Show with her piece "Houdini."
Three Amigos, LHS Gold Medal, 10th grade
The Lone Cowboy, LHS Gold Medal, 9th grade
Behind the Chutes, LMS Best of Show (Ribbon Mixup should have been purple), 8th grade
Ol' Mission, LMS Gold Medal (Ribbon Mixup should have been gold), 8th grade

Leaping Lizards, LES Best of Show, 5th grade
A Front's Moving In, LES Gold Medal, 3rd grade

From Mrs. Leonard, Mr. Humber and myself: Thanks to all who came out to support our students and CONGRATULATIONS to all our winners!!! You can be one of the approximate 2.5 million people to see their work on display at the NRG Center during this year's Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, March 3-22, 2015!

What to expect in 2015

This is one of those moments where I realize I have learned a valuable lesson over the past couple of months. What is that lesson? Agent J discovered it in Men in Black when Agent K explains, "There's always an alien battle cruiser or a Korilian death ray or an intergalactic plague about to wipe out life on this planet." It will not wipe out the planet, but there is always something going on in the LHS Art Room! This semester is going to be WILD! So where do we begin?

Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo/Liberty ISD District Show... Friday, Jan. 16, 2015 in the Liberty High School Cafeteria will feature Western Heritage art from students ranging from 2nd to 12th grade.

Rotary Club is partnering with us for their "Rotary's 90th with a Liberty Bell" fundraising project (proceeds to go to Rotary International’s Polio Plus effort and the Liberty Bell Tower reconstruction fund.) For an additional fee, LHS Art will paint the bell for you.

V.A.S.E. (Visual Art Scholastic Event) hosted by Texas Art Education Association on Saturday, Feb. 28, will be LHS Art's second showing at this regional UIL level art competition. I can't wait to see what the students come up with!!!

And the biggest news... LHS Art will be starting a new organization... the LIBERTY ART BIKE Club or LABs for short! Full STE(A)M Ahead!... "What's an Art Bike?" Details coming soon!
