Liberty Middle School Art Gala

This past weekend was the LMS Fine Art Gala and I wanted to share some of the highlights in case you were not in attendance. Though not as grand as years past, this year's Visual and Graphic Arts students put on quite a show! I applaud Mrs. Mellissa Waller and Mr. JD Humber as well as all their students for producing so many wonderful pieces! Here are just a few!

It was also time for the National Junior Art Honor Society to induct 15 new members and appoint new officers for the coming year!

Mr. Humber's 6th graders also presented Mr. Cody Abshier, LISD Superintendent, with this well done mosaic portrait! Each student was given a separate square to do and then they were brought back together for this wonderful tribute and thank you for all his hard work!

No Small Task!

"No small task" These Liberty Bells are huge weighing in at 300 lb. each.  However, the LHS Art 2 kids are up to the challenge. And the 1st round is definitely a knockout, but it's not over. Check out their hard work here and the 1st 4 Bells to be painted are ready to deliver.

If you would like more information on how to acquire a bell of your own,
please call 936.336.3611 or email Carol Skewes, publisher@thevindicator.com

Liberty Art Goes to the Houston Rodeo

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Awards Presentation
NRG Center, March 7, 2015
This year's Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Awards Presentation was held inside the NRG Center, March 7, 2015. Here's one more round of applause to our winners and photos of those who made it to Houston to receive theirs! Great job to all!

The kids weren't the only big winners this year!

Liberty ISD was awarded a "Super Show" which is given to district art shows that go above and beyond!  As the District Representative, I would like to thank Mrs. Brenda Leonard and Mr. JD Humber for all their hard work and support in this achievement! And to my students who helped assemble the art displays this year! I cannot say thank you enough. You all did an awesome job!!!!!!!!!

This year's HLSR School Art Program hosted 100 school districts and 40 private schools with 683 pieces of artwork on display during the rodeo. Hope you got to go see them all, but if not, no worries we have our winners for you here at http://lhsartrm.blogspot.com/search/label/HLSRSchoolArt.

V.A.S.E. (Visual Art Scholastic Event)

Milky Way, Mixed Media (Watercolor, salt & colored pencil)

The Dreamers and Seekers seem few and far between but I have the honor and blessing of knowing this bunch. This past weekend a group of 5 brave souls took on the challenge of V.A.S.E. (Visual Art Scholastic Event). V.A.S.E. is a "UIL-esque" event where the artwork is created beforehand and then brought before a judge to be considered worthy of further recognition or not. Each student is rated not only on their artwork, but also on their ability to communicate their concept to the judge. These were the ones willing to put themselves out there and for that I am so proud of them!!!

Please note these five brave souls were part of this year's event  which "involved 14 school districts, 44 campuses, 99 Instructors, and 1988 student entries (1602 of which actually made it to be judged)."

And a Special Thanks to Coach Box for driving the bus and being such an avid supporter of the Arts!
