2018 HLSR School Art Highlights

On January 12, 2018, the LHS Cafeteria was overflowing with anticipation to hear who would be representing Liberty ISD at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Hayloft Gallery (Feb. 27 - Mar. 18, 2018.) Over a 100 supportive parents, teachers, and friends came to see over 200 pieces of art that Liberty ISD students had worked so hard on. These students were under the direction of Mrs. Elene Takach, San Jacinto Elementary; Mrs. Michelle Casey, LES; Mrs. Angela Brooks, LMS and Mrs. Charlotte Tarbell, LHS.

Due to changes in the judging process, finalists were chosen locally before going to Houston on Jan. 6, 2018, to be considered for the big prizes of Best of Show and Gold Medals guaranteeing a spot in Houston. Finalists included 5 pieces from the elementary level, 5 from middle school and 20 from high school. When all was said and done the awards went to:

Wells Fargo/ Society of Performing Arts' Student Art Contest

"Each year the Wells Fargo Student Art Contest aligns with one of SPA's main stage presentations, which serves as inspiration for the contest. Hundreds of students submit their artwork to SPA each season and winning entries are showcased in exhibitions all around the Houston area.

[Theme:] Culinary Art

For the last 50 years, Society for the Performing Arts has celebrated our great city, a melting pot of international cultures and ethnicities, by bringing the world's best right here to Houston. That incredible diversity is represented nowhere better than in Houston's own culinary scene.

Inspired by the artistic, cultural and culinary diversity of the city of Houston, the 19th Annual Wells Fargo Student Art Contest, Culinary Art, encourages students to cook up an artistic composition that answers the question. How does Houston taste to you?"
